Is there any reason not to brine chicken Tikka before grilling?

I know the marinade is supposed to act as a tenderizer, but frankly. my husband and I are not all that great at grilling and we're trying not to end up with chicken jerky. (Yuck.) Will a salt brine beforehand help? Have you tried it?? Thanks.
