Can't get a sugar glider :(. Any suggestions?

After much thought and research I've made the sad decision not to get a sugar glider because I will be going to college soon and I don't want it to to have a stressful(which I know it would be) life. So I will wait until after I graduate. But, in the meantime I would like to get a pet to keep me company that isn't so high maintenance but I don't know what. Is there anything else you could suggest? And please don't say a hamster :(, to me they're not much of a pet. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
